Keeping™ is fully compatible with Aliases and Group email addresses. This short tutorial explains how alias and group email addresses are treated and how to register them.

What are Aliases?

Aliases are alternate email addresses that point to an existing Gmail address. For exemple you may have setup support@yourcompany.com as an alias so that any messages sent to it automatically get forwarded to your actual email address (e.g. you@yourcompany.com).

We refer to the email account that receives the messages the ‘Parent’ account.

  • support@yourcompany.com = Alias
  • you@yourcompany.com = Parent account

It’s important to note that aliases do not have login credentials and are managed via the parent account.

How to setup a mailbox with an email alias

The process is identical to the regular process with the only difference that during step #2,  you’ll need to login to the parent account to setup the forwarding address (as it receives emails sent to the alias ) and setup a filter that redirects your alias emails to Keeping™.

1. Log into the parent’s account

2. Access the setting page

Click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of Gmail, click the ‘Settings’ option from the dropdown menu and click the ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’ tab from the top menu.

3. Add the forwarding address

Click the ‘Add a forwarding address’ button and paste the address you copied earlier into the text field, then hit Next.

4. Login to your own Gmail account to confirm

Now head to your own Gmail account (e.g. you@yourcompany.com). This is the email address you used when you signed up to Keeping™.

Click on the ‘Open‘ link on the toolbar.

You should have received a confirmation email from Google with a confirmation code.

Copy the confirmation code.

Go back to the forwarding tab and enter the confirmation code to verify the address.
(Click on the Gear icon → Settings → ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’).

5. Setup a filter to forward messages sent to your alias to your Keeping™ address

Click on ‘Filter‘ and ‘Create a new filter

In the TO field, enter your alias email address and click on ‘Create filter with this search’.

Then on the second screen, Tick ‘Skip the inbox‘ and select to forward it to your Keeping™ email address. then click on ‘Create Filter’-

You are done. Now ever messages sent to you alias account will get forwarded correctly.

What about Group email addresses?

Because Keeping™ takes care of the distribution and synchronisation of emails, using groups becomes redundant.

What we recommend is that you convert your group email address into an email alias, and follow the instructions above.
